HSI launches workforce competency tool for employers
Thu, 5th Nov 2026 (Today)
HSI has launched a workforce competency management product aimed at organisations that need a consolidated view of employee readiness.
The product sits within the HSI platform and brings together data on competencies, certifications, qualifications and assessments in one system. It is designed to help employers move beyond simply tracking whether staff have completed training courses.
Many companies in regulated and safety-sensitive sectors still use spreadsheets and manual processes to monitor skills and qualifications across their workforce. HSI says its product provides a real-time view of readiness across teams, sites and wider operations, with a focus on identifying gaps and matching qualified workers to specific roles.
The launch also expands HSI's software platform, which includes HSI Intelligence, a set of artificial intelligence tools used in safety and learning management. Those tools include functions for corrective action and personalised training recommendations.
Shift in focus
Traditional learning management systems tend to focus on course completion records. HSI says its new product extends that model by linking training with role requirements, certifications, practical assessments and demonstrated skills.
Organisations can use the system to standardise competency requirements across business units, manage skills matrices, track certification expiry dates and monitor workforce readiness at employee, team, site and enterprise level.
The software is targeted at manufacturing, energy, utilities, construction, transportation, mining and logistics. These sectors often face strict regulatory obligations, labour shortages and pressure to manage operational risk.
HSI also says that linking workforce competency and training information with environmental, health and safety data can give employers a stronger basis for identifying workforce risk before it contributes to an incident.
One example cited by HSI involved Siemens Energy Ireland, which used the system to manage more than 1,500 contractors across its sites. The deployment was intended to help ensure contractors were trained before arriving on site and to reduce administrative work.
According to HSI, Siemens Energy Ireland has recorded more than 500,000 working hours without lost time to an incident while using the system. HSI presented that as evidence of the product's use in contractor oversight and site readiness.
Executive comments
Jose Arcilla, Chief Executive Officer of HSI, described the launch as a response to a wider shift in how employers assess workforce preparedness.
"Today's organizations need far more than visibility into completed training-they need confidence that every employee has the knowledge, skills, and qualifications required to perform safely and effectively," said Jose Arcilla, Chief Executive Officer of HSI.
HSI argues that competency management is becoming a broader operational issue rather than a narrow training administration task. In that view, employers need systems that combine qualification records with role-based requirements and current workforce data.
The issue has become more prominent as businesses contend with compliance demands, retiring skilled workers and more complex contractor networks. In industries where work is spread across multiple sites or regions, managers often need timely information on whether staff and contractors meet specific requirements before deployment.
Key features in the new software include automated competency tracking tied to training completion, dynamic skills matrices, competency scoring dashboards, certification and licence management, contractor qualification management, expiry alerts and integration with the company's learning management system.
Arcilla said HSI sees workforce competency as a business priority for customers trying to balance compliance and productivity.
"Workforce competency has become a strategic business priority," said Arcilla. "Organisations are under constant pressure to maintain compliance while improving productivity and preparing the next generation of skilled workers. This solution helps our customers accomplish all three by providing unprecedented visibility into workforce capability and readiness."
